ROME, NY, December 16, 2005 - The New York State Technology Enterprise Corporation today marked its 10th Anniversary with an 11 a.m ceremony at its Griffiss Park headquarters during which it recognized three individuals and two organizations that have supported the company since its inception. The ceremony was followed by a luncheon and daylong celebration. During the morning ceremony, NYSTEC Executive Director Bill Pirillo presented Appreciation Awards to New York State Assemblywoman RoAnn Destito, New York State Assemblyman David Townsend, New York State Senator Raymond Meier, the Air Force Research Laboratory Rome Research Site (AFRL), and SRC Management Inc. “The three state representatives have supported us from the beginning,” said NYSTEC Executive Director Bill Pirillo. “One of the many things they have done for our company was to help draft and pass legislation that has allowed New York State agencies to contract with NYSTEC on a sole-source basis. This has been vital to our company’s long-term success.” “AFRL has also been very supportive,” noted Pirillo. “For years AFRL allowed us to base our old headquarters in one of their buildings, and over the years we have sometimes tapped AFRL technology and expertise on relevant projects. Most importantly to us, NYSTEC has applied many AFRL practices in devising our project-management process, which guides the way that we work with all of our clients.” NYSTEC's engineers and project managers assist clients with all phases of technology acquisition and integration, typically by helping them plan and implement multi-million-dollar technology upgrades. NYSTEC works with clients to evaluate their technology requirements, assess solutions, write Requests for Proposals, and oversee implementation of new systems. The company’s main technology areas are land-mobile radio communications, telecommunications, computer networks, and information security. After reviewing proposals from multiple companies, the New York State Science & Technology Foundation awarded the NYSTEC oversight contract to SRC in 1995. NYSTEC began as a not-for-profit company with three employees working out of one room inside Rome Laboratory. Thanks to successful projects with New York State agencies, NYSTEC evolved into a trusted technology advisor to government agencies and institutions. Today the company employs 55 people. NYSTEC moved into its new Rome headquarters building in July 2004. The company also has satellite offices in Albany and New York City, and takes pride in being an active and concerned corporate citizen of the Mohawk Valley. On October 1, 2005, NYSTEC will embark on a new path as it breaks official ties with Syracuse Research Corporation (SRC). For the past 10 years, SRC’s considerable technical and administrative support has been invaluable to NYSTEC, but each company has grown to the point where it now makes financial and strategic sense to forge an independent course. The celebration on September 16 also honored the two companies’ long relationship and marked this new beginning. NYSTEC will still tap SRC’s expertise, since SRC President Robert U. Roberts will sit on the company’s new Board of Directors. “SRC is primarily a federal government contractor, whereas NYSTEC’s main client base is state and local government,” said Pirillo. “It just makes sense that we no longer stay under the same corporate umbrella, because our clients have very different needs. But the split doesn’t mean that we won’t partner with SRC on future projects. If it’s beneficial to both of us, I fully expect that SRC and NYSTEC will continue to work together.”
